The photo above was taken with my little point and shoot on my way to my new residence in Hoodsport WA. This view of Annas Bay on the Hood Canal shows points of land jutting out on the left on which are the modest elements of my new town-- Potlach State Park, attractive little waterfront summer homes, and the small town far off in this picture that includes a handful of shops, a gas station, a supermarket, a post office, a nice library, small eateries, and a lumber shop. There are other little businesses and agencies, but not enough to take away the notion that this is a very remote little old town. Today I met a guy landscaping the supermarket's roadfront who told me who to go to for gravel for my muddy driveway. I find that there are key people in any small town, and the gravel person, I was told, was the "heartbeat" of the small town. What wealth of wisdom comes from the "locals"!
Today I sat and pieced together a Press Release with an artist friend announcing a show in her studio in nearby Harstine Island. She invited me to bring some work to that show, and so we are off and running with lots of things to do to prepare. At the same time, I realized that the Farmer's Market starts up in a couple of week's time. Wow. Time to get out the canopy and the tables and spruce things up for a new season.
It's cold on the little street in Shelton WA when we first set up. (See photo at left of the scene less than a week ago just outside my office window!) It can be terribly uncomfortable if there is a wind chill factor. I will have two booth spaces this year so I can spread out my wares less crowdedly... AND, I need to put together my boxes of product so I know what I am going to show. Hard work ahead. And it will end in September!
This past winter season was supposed to be when I was going to put together my oil paintings into a "body of work" to exhibit, and also to develop a new line of designs for my carved things. But it was the winter of moving, as it turned out. That put a real dent in my plans, but in the end I come out with a much better set-up for my projects, including a lovely large garage which will be a fine workshop. I need to winterize it over the summer months so I can continue to use it next winter (to do what I was going to do THIS winter!)
I do love beginnings. This is good, because here I am beginning again. Susan
